Conference: Lorraine's role in the training of the young person from La Tour

Conference proposed by Vincent Hadot, art historian.

Between the first two mentions of GDLT in the Vicois parish registers at his birth in 1593 and then during a baptism 23 years later, the mystery remains complete as to the place where the painter was able to carry out his training. He was undoubtedly exposed to Italian and Nordic arts, but no one knows from which workshop and in which country. Without claiming to want to answer this question, the proposed conference, which will be based on a study published in 2025 in the Figaro Histoire special issue, will present a portrait of the Lorraine artistic context of the first three decades of La Tour, focused on porosity and cultural circulation in the duchies at the time of Dukes Charles III and Henry II. If we do not know where GDLT went, we will see conversely how foreign cultures were able to come into contact with the Lorraine artists of his time and nourish the thoughts of painters in the duchies.
