• Purpose: Session cookie that temporarily stores visit data (the data is then anonymized)
• Usage: Allows you to link actions performed during the session (page views, downloads, events) to a single visit so that Matomo correctly assigns these actions to a single session. The data collected is recorded and usable

• Expiration: 30 minutes (and some associated data up to 13 months)

• Purpose: Stores attribution information (the referrer who brought the user to the site)
• Usage: Includes provenance (search engine, social network, external site or campaign) in order to attribute visits to specific traffic sources
