Introduction

The Domaine de Lindre is a true preserved natural refuge. Spanning more than 1,000 hectares, this exceptional site is a paradise for lovers of fauna and flora, but also for those looking for a place to escape far from the daily hustle and bustle. Classified as a Sensitive Natural Area (ENS), the Estate is a place of remarkable biodiversity, where ponds, forests and meadows intertwine harmoniously, creating a landscape of great beauty.

The essential

The Domaine de Lindre is a Sensitive Natural Area (ENS) of nearly 1,000 hectares. This haven of peace consists of 12 fish ponds, recognized as the largest fish pond in France, which is a wetland classified as being of global interest.

The Domaine de Lindre today represents a space where life is good for many animal and plant species. It is now part of a desire to preserve the site, but also to raise awareness among as many visitors as possible about environmental issues.

Remarkable biodiversity
Landscape of the Lindre departmental domain

The Estate is home to 240 species of birds, half of which are nesting, 11 species of amphibians, several protected plants, an immense procession of insects, molluscs and mammals linked to wetlands, as well as breeding quality fish, a consequence of the fish farming activity still practiced today. Twelve species are raised in the pond. They are mainly classic pond species: carp, pike, perch, tench, zander, crayfish, etc.

Discoveries
Photograph from the observation cabin of the Lindre departmental estate

For a walk alone(e), or with family, the Domaine de Lindre invites you to discover three discovery trails.

  • The "Rives en Rêves" trail (1.5 km),
  • The Landscape Trail (2.5 km),
  • The trail from Lindre to Tarquimpol (8 km round trip).

You can also gain height thanks to our two ornithological observatories:

  • The House of Birds: this vast ornithological observatory provides an excellent point of view
view of the Romersberg forest and the central area of the Lindre pond.
  • The LAÔ cabin: located on the edge of the large Lindre pond, it is a lighthouse facing the Vosges.
  • The Lindre departmental estate is also a site of international interest for ornithologists. The diversity of environments present on the site, a subtle network of ponds, forests, meadows and fields, makes it a privileged land for many species of migratory or sedentary birds. It is particularly important to highlight the richness of the avifauna in the forest areas and the presence of numerous protected species.
The hatchery

Domaine de Lindre has a hatchery which produces fry with resorbed vesicles (young fish ready to feed in the wild) from February to June. These fry come from highly selected broodstock caught in the ponds of Domaine de Lindre.

Did you know? The hatchery produces in a controlled manner 5 to 11 million fry per year of pike, zander and carp, mainly used to stock departmental ponds with fish.
