Our artistic and cultural policy

Introduction

The Department of Moselle works daily in favor of an ambitious artistic and cultural policy centered on the accessibility of culture for all.
For its President, Patrick Weiten, access to culture is not an option, but a priority whose initiatives must be supported.

Our Artistic and Cultural Policy

Numerous projects carried out in collaboration with public and private actors — municipalities and intermunicipalities, educational establishments, cultural structures, associations, professional and amateur artists – aspire to support artistic and cultural practices throughout the Moselle territory. Supporting these practices is also one of the priorities of the Department's cultural policy. This support translates into subsidies, support systems and partnerships, in order to promote the dissemination of artistic works and initiatives.

The cultural enrichment of all requires large-scale events as well as a rich and varied program (exhibitions, events, sporting activities, games...), organized each year by the Department in its heritage sites, also contributing to promoting the Moselle in France and internationally.

Particular attention is paid to proximity, with actions aimed at remote audiences, whether residents of rural areas, elderly people in EHPADs or those whose access to culture is limited, so that everyone can benefit from this common wealth.

Archives, heritage, archaeology and museums

The Department of Moselle attaches great importance to the enhancement and protection of its heritage. Witness to a great history and guardian of memory, it reveals our culture and our identity.
In order to allow future generations to better understand this territory, it is essential to bring it to life and make it accessible to as many people as possible.
This is why the Department is continually committed to: preserving archives, protecting archaeological sites, promoting historical monuments and enlivening places that embody Moselle heritage.

Artistic and cultural education

Artistic and cultural education (EAC) brings together all the actions carried out to enable young people to discover arts and culture, while developing their sensitivity, creativity and critical thinking.

It is based on three complementary pillars: the encounter with works and artists, artistic practice in different forms (music, theater, visual arts, dance, etc.) and the acquisition of knowledge promoting understanding of arts and culture.

The generalization of artistic and cultural education implies the mobilization of all ministerial, artistic, cultural, associative and territorial stakeholders to develop actions as close as possible to the territories.

To support this approach, the Department of Moselle supports schools, associations, artists and cultural structures (notably 45 specialized artistic establishments such as music, dance and theater schools and conservatories) in the region in order to enable everyone to discover, practice and share enriching artistic experiences. This commitment contributes to making Moselle a territory where culture is accessible to everyone, from a very young age.

Department's means of action

Class, work!

"Class, work! " is an artistic and cultural education operation linked to the "European Night of Museums". It is part of the student's artistic and cultural education path and aims to promote heritage collections to schools and teachers. It brings together establishments from kindergarten to high school, French museums, archive services and certified structures (FRAC, Art Centers, Maisons des Illustres...) around the same project.

In 2024 the Department of Moselle signed an agreement with the Ministry of Culture and the Ministry of National Education, Youth and Sports relating to the development of artistic and cultural education. In this context, three Passionately Moselle Sites — Museum of the War of 1870 and the Annexation, Departmental Salt Museum and Georges de La Tour Departmental Museum — are part of the "Class, The Work" system taking place on the 2024-2025 school year, supported by the Nancy-Metz Academy.

On this occasion, students from classes in Rozérieulles, Mulcey, Moyenvic, Loudrefing, Hampont and Delme met three artists from different disciplines in the Passionnément Moselle Sites.
Following a visit to the museum, during which the students immersed themselves in a chosen work, creative work was carried out in class and then presented on May 17, 2025, on the occasion of European Museum Night. It was a great opportunity for them to take on the role of "culture transmitters" and to highlight the work accomplished in collaboration with the teacher, the artist and the museum, to the general public.

For any artistic and cultural education project, the Department services concerned are available to guide and advise you.
