beasts and Witches: Once upon a time there was Halloween.
Show narrated by Corinne Duchêne
Christian All Saints' Day replaced Celtic Samhain, which later became Irish Halloween. In the past, the Gauls celebrated Samhain for three nights and three days. The disguised children chased away wandering spirits, the candles on the window guided the deceased ancestors and the young people went from door to door to collect food for the great banquet. In French oral tradition, it is at this time that fairies and elves appear in the countryside, that standing stones move releasing their treasures and that white ladies prowl near ruined fortresses.
