Trojan collection on a trip: a look at the 19th century

Until December 5, 2027, the Georges de La Tour Museum has Vic-sur-Seille invites visitors to discover an exceptional selection of around twenty works loaned by the Museum of Fine Arts and Archeology of Troyes, put into dialogue with the museum's collections.

Through this journey, you will discover multiple facets of the art of 19th century, abundant period when France shines as the artistic capital of Europe. Between academic tradition and avant-garde impulses, the major artistic movements meet, respond to each other and sometimes oppose each other: romanticism, realism, impressionism, symbolism...

Four major themes, essential for painters of this period, punctuate this journey: history, inexhaustible source of inspiration; the portrait, which gradually reveals the soul and the personality; the landscape, between emotion, play of light and observation of reality; and finally orientalism, driven by a fascination with exoticism.
